Ghost In The Cell Juli Tournee

Ghost In The Cell is the project of Georgian-Swiss composer Demetre Gamsachurdia. It follows texts by the imprisoned activists Sam Melville and Merab Kostava, exploring freedom of the mind through or better in spite of incarceration. Musically it is a mostly improvised rendition of the minimal music piece ‘Coming Together’ by Frederic Rzewski. I am very excited to be touring in Switzerland and Georgia in the beginning of July, playing alto saxophone with analogue effects.

After two years waiting the tis jazz fest 2022 could finally take place at Atlantis club in Basel, and with it the long awaited premiere of the TIS JAZZ ORCHESTRA. I have created this new big band for two reasons: For one, to perform my own compositions for big band that have been starting to collect dust in my closet. This music is entirely original, but it also shows my gratitude and admiration for the genre’s giants, like Sammy Nestico, Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Gil Evans, Maria Schneider and Jim McNeely, and not to forget the Swiss concert band legend, George Gruntz.

And two, to gather the artistic quality of the Basel scene’s jazz musicians. I hope that in a long term, I can contribute a new element to the scene. We are looking for a like-minded sponsor and promoter who might share this vision.

Kompositionsauftrag vom Generations Festival

Das Generations Festival steht seit über 20 Jahren für einen Austausch zwischen neuen Talenten und führenden Europäischen Persönlichkeiten des Jazz. In diesem Jahr ist der geniale britische Pianist und Komponist Django Bates als Kurator berufen worden. Umso mehr freut es mich, dass ich neben vier anderen Komponisten eingeladen bin, ein neues Werk für eine 22-köpfige Big Band, geleitet von Posaunist und Komponist Adrian Mears, zu schreiben. Die Premiere findet am 8. Oktober um 19 Uhr im Casino in Frauenfeld in der Schweiz statt. Eine Übersicht über das gesamte Festivalprogramm gibt es HIER.

Liebe Seitenbesucher, neue und gute Nachrichten für Seibolzing: Wir sind für den Neuen Deutschen Jazzpreis 2019 nominiert. Am 16. März werden Shreefpunk plus Strings, Coastline Paradox und wir jeweils ein halbstündiges Set spielen und am Ende bestimmt das Publikum seinen Gewinner. Fun-fact zum Seibolzing-Konzert: Unser Posaunist Raph reist extra für dieses Konzert aus Sydney ein!
